South-America in Brazilian Foreign Policy: Fernando Henrique Cardoso’s Term.

Tamara Gregol de Farias

Abstract

The priority conferred to Brazilian relations with its South America partners and with the regionalist foreign policy portrays the universalism adopted as a principle in foreign affairs. In this context, this policy has passed through a renaissance after the democratization of the region and also because of the change concerning the development paradigm in international relations – Normal State and Logistic State. Furthermore, the high level of globalization required the State a new position in the international scenario, in which South America integration has come up to balance its effect and to adopt Brazilian insertion in the international system.
